A special kind of adventure awaits you on our excursion to Bavaria -
Berchtesgaden. Past the village Anif and cross the Austrian-Bavarian
border. Along the Königsee River Valley, through the Bavarian mountains,
along romantic farmhouses and Obersalzberg, we arrive at the highlight
of our journey. A bus and elevator will bring us to the Eagles Nest .
The buses to the Eagle's Nest are equipped with special engines and
brakes to transport you from the Obersalzberg to the Eagle's Nest. The
adventurous bus ride along the steep rock walls and deep gorges takes
about 20 minutes. During the journey you will have a splendid view
up to the 'Hoher Goell' and across the snowcapped peaks of the Bavarian
mountains. With the elevator (length 425 ft) you enter the Eagle's Nest
(6.017 ft). On the way down contented faces are living proof that it was
a successful excursion and many of the guests will return again and
again to the Eagle's Nest.
Afterwards you have the chance to regain your strength with some
Bavarian specialties.
A Walk Through History (walking tour of

For centuries, Salzburg was a proud state ruled by Archbishops who
lavished great wealth and splendid architecture on the city sometimes
called the "Rome of the North" because of its many churches and
cathedrals. Iti is also called the "city of Mozart" as the birthplace of
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. On this walking tour, you can taken in
examples of Salzburg's breathtaking Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque
artistry. Near the start of your walk you will encounter the world
famous gardens of Mirabell, and view the house where Mozart was raised.
Crossing a footbridge into the Baroque City Centre, you will sen the
house where Salzburg's most famous composer was born, and the renowned
shopping street Getreidegasse.
Among the picturesque streets and hidden byways of the Old City you will
see the Salzburg Dome Cathedral, St. Peter's Monastery and many other
important sights and symbols. Your guide will cover not only the
history of Salzburg, but also the most interesting information about its
most famous citizens, from Mozart himself to Maria von Trapp. The tour
starts at the Panorama Tours busterminal across from the Mirabell Palace
next to St. Andrä Church. Entrance fees are not included.
Bavarian Mountains and Salt Mines Tour

Something very different awaits you, should you decide to visit the
Saltmines. Past the hunting castle Hellbrunn we cross the
Austrian-Bavarian border. Along the Königseeache valley, through the
Bavarian mountains, past romantic farmhouses and the ruins of
Obersalzberg - Hitler's former mountain retreat - we arrive at the
highlight of the journey, the 500-year-old Saltmines.
Wearing the traditional miners' clothing, you enter the mines and hear
the historical as well as the legendary tales of the fascinating
underground world. Using the same slides as hundreds of miners before
you, you go down a 100-foot-long slide into the grottos, the magical
world beneath the surface of the earth. With a raft ride on the salt
lake and a miniature train ride we end our romantic and educational
adventure.
Afterwards you have the chance to regain your strength with some
Bavarian specialities during a stop in Berchtesgaden. Highlights: View
of Hitler's 'Eagle's Nest'. Magnificent views across the snowcapped
peaks of the Bavarian mountains. Dress up in miners' clothes. Riding on
original mining waggons, 100-foot-slide to the grottos, a film showing
the origin of the salt deposits. Boat ride on the salt lake. Stop in
Berchtesgaden.

The tour meanders south along the picturesque Salzach Valley towards the
idyllic village of Werfen, taking in historic monuments, sheer mountain
passes and the most imposing castle in middle Europe, the Hohenwerfen
Fortress.
You can either stay at the fort - where the Hollywood movie "Where
Eagles Dare" was shot - or continue on to the Ice Caves. After a safe
and wonderful walk and ride with the cable car, you will enter this
natural wonder with our guide, who will explain the labyrinths of large
caverns, mysterious ice figures and give many added tales of adventure,
to make your experience unforgettable. There is no more to this cavern
than its echo!
Important: For visitors of the Ice Caves: Guest need walking shoes, warm

The Lake district with its natural beauty and exceptional landscape
already hosted the Austrian Emperor Franz Josef and his family for their
summer vacation. Splendid hunts were held there by Salzburgs Prince
Archbishops.
On this tour you can experience the breathtaking beauty of one of
Austria's most beautiful regions - the lake district just beyond the
gates of Salzburg. With a view down to Salzburg we begin our excursion
to the scenic and historical landmarks of the surroundings. We will
point out the impressive hunting castle Fuschl, today a luxury hotel,
where the Prince Archbishops spent many seasons.
In St. Wolfgang there is time to visit the famous winged Gothic altar by
Michael Pacher and a stop at the 'White Horse Inn' for refreshments.
From St. Wolfgang we will go by boat (May 1st - Oct 26th) to St. Gilgen
on the other side of Lake St. Wolfgang. After 25 minutes we will land in
St. Gilgen, where Mozart's mother was born. Passing Castle Hüttenstein
we continue along the Mondsee. The ever changing and contrasting scenery

highlights of the film 'Sound of Music' but also the historical and

picturesque lake district.
Mirabell Gardens
The Mirabell Gardens were laid out in the 18th century. Maria and the
children were seen dancing around the statue of Pegasus, the winged
horse, and throughout the gardens singing 'Do-Re-Mi'.
Leopoldskron Castle
The front side of the castle was used as the Trapp family home, the
children were boating on the Leopoldskron Lake and fell into the water.
The Venetian room was copied from the castle and used as the ballroom.
Hellbrunn Castle
This hunting castle was built in the early 17th century by
Prince-Archbishop Markus Sittikus. In the gardens the glass pavillion
was reconstructed for the pleasure of those fans still returning after
30 years.
Nonnberg Abbey
Nonnberg Abbey is the oldest convent in the German speaking part of
Europe. Maria was a novice there. The baron and Maria were married here
in 1927. The scenes for the movie made here include the opening with the
nuns going to Mass and Maria coming too late.
St.Gilgen and Lake Wolfgang
Scenery shown at the beginning of the movie was filmed at Lake Fuschl on
the way to St. Gilgen. Like the Mozart family, visitors from all over
the world appreciate the beautiful village in the Salzkammergut.
Wedding Church Mondsee
In Mondsee Cathedral the film wedding between Julie Andrews as Maria and
Christopher Plummer as the Baron took place.
